Levels of Care
Levels of Care We Offer in Southern California
Treatment works best when the structure fits what you need right now. Together with our affiliated programs, care ranges from 24/7 medical care to a few groups a week, and most people move through more than one. You can step down from detox or residential into PHP and IOP, or step up into IOP from regular therapy appointments when you need more support.
Drug & Alcohol Detox Program
Medical detox, provided by our affiliated licensed programs, is where most people start. You’ll have 24/7 nursing care and medication management to keep withdrawal safe and as comfortable as possible, usually over 7 to 10 days. By the time your body is stable, your OceanRock care team can already be lined up for what comes next.
Residential Substance Abuse & Mental Health
Provided by our affiliated licensed programs. Live on site with full clinical programming and a structured day, usually for 3 to 4 weeks, with detox support if you need it. Your days include individual therapy, group, and whole-person care like yoga and breathwork. It’s where community starts: people who understand what you’re going through, in a setting their staff keep safe.
OceanRock Health provides partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), virtual IOP, and outpatient care in Newport Beach under DHCS Certification #300428AP. OceanRock Health does not provide medical detox or residential treatment. Those services are provided in Costa Mesa by our affiliated programs, which are separately licensed and accredited for those services and share common ownership and management with OceanRock Health. You are free to choose any treatment provider, and our admissions team can help you explore other options.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
Full days of treatment, then evenings at home or in one of our supportive living homes. PHP is a common next step after detox or residential, and it’s also a step up for anyone whose weekly therapy isn’t enough anymore. You keep building skills during the day and start using them in real life at night.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Several groups a week, scheduled around work, school, or family, with daytime and evening options. We admit directly into IOP, so you don’t have to go through detox or residential first if you don’t need it. On the first call, admissions will help you figure out the right place to start.
Virtual IOP
A separate program with its own group facilitators and schedule, open to adults anywhere in California. Group and individual sessions happen online and are built on CBT, DBT, and other evidence-based approaches, and your care team is there when challenges come up between sessions. You’re always welcome to visit the facility or join community activities in person.
Supportive Living Homes
Supportive living homes in Orange County for people in PHP or IOP, whether you attend in person or virtually. You get a safe, sober place to live while you’re in treatment, with people working toward the same thing. Pets are welcome based on current space, one animal per home.

Programming for Any Life Schedule
Finding the right level of structure is vital for a successful journey toward wellness, which is why we offer programs that range in intensity. Each program is designed to provide stability and clinical support while helping you build the skills necessary to navigate life without substances or emotional distress.
In Person (PHP and IOP, with Detox and Residential through our affiliates)
Some people start with a 7 to 10 day detox at one of our affiliated programs. Others stay 3 to 4 weeks in residential, then step down through PHP and IOP. In-person care puts the focus on community and relationships, the skills that substance use and mental health struggles tend to take away first. See the group schedule.
Hybrid (PHP, IOP)
Built for busy schedules. You still get the community, peer support, and relationships that come from being in the room, with the option to attend some programming online from home or work.
Full Virtual (IOP)
Available to adults anywhere in California. Assessments, group sessions, and individual therapy all happen online with your clinical team. It works well for Orange County residents away at college, parents and caregivers who can’t leave home, and professionals who travel or want to keep treatment private. Substance Use
When substance use is the main concern, treatment focuses on three things: stopping safely, preventing relapse, and rebuilding a life with recovery in the middle of it. That starts with medical detox through our affiliated programs when you need it, along with medication-assisted treatment that can quiet cravings so the rest of the work becomes possible. Then come the practical skills: what to do on a hard day when you want to use, how to handle stress without a substance, and how to go back to your family and your job ready to show up.
Mental Health
Our mental health program is smaller by design, for adults whose main struggle is anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, chronic stress, or burnout rather than substance use. Its groups are separate from our substance use groups, so you get the focus you came for. Treatment looks at what’s underneath the symptoms, then builds the lifestyle changes and practical skills that keep you steady going forward. If you need a more intensive level of mental health care than we provide, we’ll help connect you with a program that fits.
We offer specialized tracks for complex conditions like depression or bipolar disorder that are tailored to the unique needs of each client. Our expert clinicians can cater to primary mental health needs at every level of care, providing integrated treatment for various mood disorders.
Dual Diagnosis
Substance use and mental health often feed each other. Drinking to quiet anxiety can deepen depression, stimulants can bring on anxiety and paranoia, and substance use can trigger or worsen conditions like bipolar disorder. Treating only one side usually means the other pulls you back. Dual diagnosis care treats both at once, with symptom management, work on the root causes, and behavioral skills for what comes next, overseen by a medical team led by an addiction psychiatrist. Medical care comes first
If you need it, treatment begins in medical detox at one of our affiliated programs, with 24/7 nursing and medication management, under a medical team led by a psychiatrist who specializes in addiction. Physical health, mental health, and medication-assisted treatment are part of the plan from day one, because leaving any of them untreated makes relapse more likely.
Therapy that treats the whole person
Your week includes individual therapy (CBT, DBT, EMDR, and REBT), group therapy, and family sessions, along with yoga, breathwork, and guided meditation through our holistic programming. We build safety and coping skills first, then move into deeper trauma work when you’re ready, and place you in groups matched to your needs and your outside life.
Step down without starting over
As you move from PHP into IOP and outpatient, you keep the same therapist and case manager, who also handles rides to appointments, court dates, and FMLA paperwork. An aftercare therapist starts working with you before discharge, so you leave with a plan and a person you already know. If you’re coming from detox or residential at one of our affiliated programs, the teams coordinate the handoff so you don’t start over.

Cost is the biggest reason people put off treatment, and the paperwork alone can feel like too much when you’re already struggling. HMO and marketplace members are often turned away by treatment centers. We put real staff time into working each carrier’s process so those members have somewhere to go. Our team handles the insurance paperwork for you, and when a carrier pushes for a shorter stay, we advocate for more time on behalf of clients who want it.

Our team includes a psychiatrist who has practiced addiction medicine for more than two decades, licensed therapists trained in trauma care including EMDR, a nursing team, and case managers who handle the practical side of treatment. Many of us are in recovery ourselves. You’ll get to know your team quickly, and you’ll have the same therapist and case manager from your first week to your last.

Our large outpatient program runs multiple groups throughout the day, plus evening IOP, virtual IOP, and hybrid attendance for people who can’t commit to a full daytime schedule. We admit directly into IOP, which many programs don’t, and keep separate groups for mental health and substance use, so you start at the right level and get the focus you came for.

We do deep trauma work, including EMDR with specially trained therapists, but safety and coping skills come first. Our medical and clinical team brings decades of combined experience in addiction medicine, psychiatry, nursing, and trauma-focused therapy. Mental health, medical needs, and medication-assisted treatment are treated alongside substance use, so people with complicated needs get coordinated care instead of starting over somewhere new.
Time to do the work
Some people start with a 7 to 10 day detox at one of our affiliated programs. Others stay in care for 6 to 12 months, and when an insurance carrier pushes for a shorter stay, we advocate for more time for clients who want it. That time gives family sessions room to get past the safe version, inside a community our staff keep safe and focused on getting better.

Do I have to go through detox or residential before starting IOP?
No. We admit directly into IOP, which many programs don’t. Admissions will talk with you about your use and your health first, and if withdrawal could be risky, we’ll provide you recommendations honestly.
Can I keep working while I'm in treatment?
Yes, for many people. Evening IOP, virtual IOP, and hybrid attendance fit around a workday, and your case manager can help with FMLA paperwork and disability navigation if you need time off.
Will my insurance cover treatment?
We’re in-network with Blue Shield of California (including HMO and on-exchange plans), Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, TriWest, and Tricare West, and we accept many other plans out of network. Coverage depends on your plan, so call and we’ll verify your benefits before you commit to anything.
